About #lobby

The #lobby is an unofficial newbie-friendly IRC channel, as well as a general chat area for regulars alike. Our sister channel, #help, is where EsperNet IRC-related questions can be asked, and assistance given for EsperNet IRC issues.

#lobby rules:

In order to maintain a healthy environment for regulars and newbies alike, we have a set of rules and guidelines which should help you adapt to the #lobby's ettiquette.

  1. Please do not request game support. You are on EsperNet, a widely used chat network for a multitude of subjects. Games are in one corner, #lobby is in another. The #lobby is not affiliated with a game, so please do not request support for your game - to us, it just looks silly. See here for potential appropriate destinations for your queries.
  2. Obey the channel operators at all times. If an operator tells you to stop doing something, stop immediately. In addition, please don't question the operators' actions. They moderate the channel, not you.
  3. The language spoken in #lobby is English.
  4. Users are expected to follow basic netiquette. An example guide is here.
  5. Do not behave in a way that causes friction with other users, for example do not:
  6. Unauthorized IRC bots are not permitted. Bringing an unauthorized bot into #lobby will result in an immediate ban for both the bot and its owner.
  7. Do not bring personal arguments into the chatroom. If you have a problem with someone, use the /ignore feature of your client (refer to your client's documentation) or work it out in private. If you experience harassment in private messages, you may also consider enabling mode +g (caller id) to prevent messages from coming from people you do not wish to /accept them from. To enable mode +g, issue: /mode mynickname +g
  8. Flaming and trolling: Don't. Any users engaging in flaming will be removed from the channel, that goes for any or all participants if an operator sees fit to do so.
  9. Pornographic content of any type is strictly prohibited, and the responsible user will be immediately banned. However, sexually oriented (but not sexually explicit) conversations are allowed, as long as the level of decency is kept.
  10. Do not post illegal content, such as links to warez. Not only does this go against channel rules, but also the Network Charter.
  11. In the event that you are banned from the channel, do not request the channel operators to remove your ban. However, if you feel you have been banned accidentally, or that your ban hasn't been removed after the expiry time, don't hesitate to contact an operator to discuss your case.
  12. Do not ban evade if you are banned. If a user knowingly evades his ban, measures will be taken to ensure it won't happen again and the ban period will be extended. Also, repeated ban evasion may result in a network-wide ban, which may result in you losing access to Espernet in its entirity.
  13. Relaying messages from the channel to banned users is a bannable offence.
